The ceramic knobs are handmade and hand-painted using traditional methods and known as Blue Pottery, which has been made in Jaipur for hundreds of years. Blue pottery was Turko-Persian in origin. The craft had almost died out when in 1960 an internationally known artist, Kripal Singh Shekhawat became involved with designing bowls, plates and vases. Interest in Blue Pottery was revived and this ensured the survival of the craft.
Potters making these goods do so in their home villages which ensures that the craft is passed on to future generations, rather than being lost as young people leave the villages because of lack of work. Innovation and creativity flourish as workers are not part of a factory production process.
Diameter 4cms, length of brass shaft 4 cms.
